John F. Mazzei

John F. Mazzei is the Managing Partner of Rand Thompson Consultants. He has led the firm since 1999 and runs its financial institutions practice, the work the firm is best known for.

His searches cover investment banking, corporate banking, capital markets, asset management, hedge funds, funds of funds, private equity, insurance, legal, and wealth management. He is the practice lead for investment banking, equity research, and alternative asset management, and he runs the firm's healthcare work alongside them.

He takes searches from the analyst class to the managing director who will build the group. He is known for the second call: the one where a client asks what the market is paying, who is movable, and whether the plan is realistic before a search is opened.

For more than four decades he has helped organizations and professionals through changing markets and pivotal career decisions. He speaks and writes on hiring and the job market. He has spoken at CFA Society New York, including its job market outlook panel, and led a career workshop at New York University in October 2023 on securing a first position.
